The Durban University of Technology (DUT) Library is proud to be Africa’s first university library to join the Future of Libraries Is Open (FOLIO) community in adopting a genuinely contemporary, open-source Library Services Platform (LSP). DUT will help to reimagine library software by collaborating with international libraries, developers, and suppliers to provide libraries with more options and deliver new services to users.

The library has a large collection of resources that assist research, teaching and learning in a variety of disciplines of study, such as books, periodicals, electronic databases, and multimedia materials. To aid its users’ academic interests, the Dut Library provides access to a wide range of information resources and services, such as research help, interlibrary loan, and electronic reserves.

The library also provides a comfortable and suitable setting for study, with quiet study areas, group study rooms, and computer capabilities. The Dut Library, with its numerous resources and services, plays an important role in supporting the purpose of the Durban University of Technology as a premier institution of higher learning in South Africa.

Features of DUT Library

The DUT library features the following;

DUT Library uses Open Athens – a system used to facilitate access to the databases, e-journals and other electronic resources that the Library has subscribed to.
If you are on or off-campus and are trying to access an electronic resource through the Library website, you will be asked to log in before you can access the resource.
For Students – please use your @dut4life email address as your username, e.g. 12345678@dut4life.ac.za Your password will be Dut followed by the 1st 6 digits of your ID number. If your ID number starts with 890101, your password will be Dut890101.
For students who registered for the 1st time in 2024, or if you are a returning student who has had your password reset, your password will be $$Dut followed by the 1st 6 digits of your ID number.
For Staff – please use your @dut email address as your username, e.g. dutlibrary@dut.ac.za Your password will be your email (domain) password
