We are very excited to announce to you that the North-West University, NWU Online Application for the 2025-2026 academic year is now open for all interested and qualified applicants. We are not just making this announcement known but also providing various steps on how to apply online for NWU admission.  

NWU has a specific deadline to apply for the application and also before applying to NWU, make sure that you meet the admission requirements for the program you are interested in.

The application process for NWU varies depending on whether you are a South African citizen, a permanent resident, or an international student. Kindly read through this post to know how to apply for your NWU application to be successful.

North-West University Application Date 2025-2026

  • South African citizens and permanent residents: Applications for the 2025 academic year opened on 1 March and closed on 30 September
  • International applicants: The application period for international applicants for the 2025 academic year is from 1 March to 30 June

Applicants are required to upload and submit the following documents as South African nationals, International applicants, postgraduate and undergraduate applicants;

Undergraduate students

To consider your application, please upload the following supporting documents. If the application is incomplete, it may be declined by the University:

  • Grade 12 results, grade 11 results (final results only) or a copy of your matric certificate – if you have already passed matric.
  • Applicants who are currently upgrading their grade 12 results, will only be considered after the improved results are presented to the NWU.
  • Applicants who follow Cambridge, GED or any other non-NSC curriculum, or who may qualify for exemption based on advanced age or post-school qualifications, must provide an exemption certificate as issued by USAF. 
  • Completed undertaking
  • Copy of your ID
  • Copy of your academic record (if applicable).
  • Additional documents for international prospective students:
    1. A copy of relevant results
    2. A copy of your passport
  • If you are not a South African citizen, you must first obtain a TRP (Temporary Residence Permit) before travelling to South Africa.

Postgraduate students

  • Completed mandatory undertaking
  • Copy of your ID
  • Copy of your academic record (if applicable).
  • Additional documents for international prospective students:
    1. A copy of relevant results
    2. A copy of your passport

NB: Keep your ID document and your final Grade 11 or 12 results handy in digital format, ensuring they are individually scanned and uploaded separately, preferably in PDF or jpeg.

How To Apply For North West Online Application 2025-2026

The application process for North-West University (NWU) varies depending on whether you are a South African citizen or an international applicant. Follow the steps below to apply;

For South African citizens:

  • Go to the NWU website: https://www.nwu.ac.za/
  • Click on the “Study@NWU” button on the homepage.
  • Select the appropriate level of study, such as undergraduate or postgraduate.
  • Click on the “Applications” button.
  • Click on the “Apply” button.
  • Create an account or log in if you already have one.
  • Fill in the online application form.
  • Upload the required supporting documents, such as your ID document or passport, academic transcripts, and proof of payment of the application fee.
  • Submit your application.

For international applicants:

  • Go to the NWU website: https://www.nwu.ac.za/
  • Click on the “Study@NWU” button on the homepage.
  • Select the appropriate level of study, such as undergraduate or postgraduate.
  • Click on the “Applications” button.
  • Click on the “International students” button.
  • Create an account or log in if you already have one.
  • Fill in the online application form.
  • Upload the required supporting documents, such as your passport, academic transcripts, English proficiency test results, and proof of payment of the application fee.
