SMU Blackboard

SMU Blackboard is an online platform that provides a virtual learning environment for students and Teachers. SMU uses Blackboard to deliver its academic programs to students with less or little stress. Students can log in to Blackboard using their SMU student credentials ; that is student number and password, and access course materials, lectures, and other resources.

SMU Blackboard also allows students to participate in online discussions and submit assignments directly through the platform.

To access Blackboard either from your device or computer follow the steps below:

1. Use Chrome or Safari as your browser
2. On the address bar type ithute.smu.ac.za
3. Enter your login credentials as provided to you by the E-learning Unit. Ithute student portal

Academic Staff

If you do not have an account yet, please send an email to staff.elearningsupport@swave.smu.ac.za with the following details:

1. Name & Surname,
2. SP Number/ Persal Number
3. Course code
4. Email Address
5. Name of Department
6. Contact Number

Students

All registered students have access to Blackboard. To log in follow the same steps as above

To reset passwords, send an email to students.elearningsupport@swave.smu.ac.za with your student number.

Turnitin Queries

To access Turnitin either from your device or computer follow the steps below:

1. Use Chrome or Safari as your browser
2. On the address bar type www.turnitin.com
3. Enter your login credentials as provided to you by the eLearning Unit.

Send an email to staff.elearningsupport@swave.smu.ac.za to request a new account with the following details:
1. Name & Surname,
2. SP Number/ Persal Number
3. Course
4. Email Address

Send an email to students.elearningsupport@swave.smu.ac.za with your paper for plagiarism check and you will receive an originality report detailing the similarity index percentage.
