Transforming Education: University of North West’s Ambitions for 2025-2026:

North-West University (NWU) is a public research institution with campuses located in Potchefstroom, Mahikeng, and Vanderbijlpark, South Africa. It was formed in 2004 as a result of a merger between two universities, the Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education and the University of the North-West.

The university offers a broad range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in diverse fields such as agriculture, engineering, business, law, education, health sciences, humanities, natural sciences, and theology.

The NWU is committed to functioning as a unitary, integrated, multi-campus university that enables equity, redress and globally competitive teaching and research across all three of our campuses. Our core activities, teaching-learning and research, are intertwined with community engagement and innovation in our eight faculties, most of which serve both distance and contact students.

NWU is one of the largest universities in South Africa, with a student population of around 73,000 and over 6,500 staff members. The university is known for its commitment to research and innovation, and its graduates are well-regarded in many fields.

University Of North West Online Application Date For 2025-2026

The University of Potchefstroom (NWU) application portal for the academic year 2025-2026 opens on April 2nd for prospective students to submit their applications.
The NWU 2025 application portal closes for course selections and residence applications on June 30th each year.
For all other courses, the application deadline is August 31st.

University Of North West Online Application Requirements For 2025-2026

Below are the required documents for applying for admission at the NWU 2025:

Undergraduate students:

To consider your application, please upload the following supporting documents. If the application is incomplete, it may be declined by the University:

Grade 12 results, grade 11 results (final results only) or a copy of your matric certificate – if you have already passed matric.
Applicants who are currently upgrading their grade 12 results, will only be considered after the improved results are presented to the NWU.
Applicants who follow Cambridge, GED or any other non-NSC curriculum, or who may qualify for exemption based on advanced age or post-school qualifications, must provide an exemption certificate as issued by USAF.
Completed undertaking
Copy of your ID
Copy of your academic record (if applicable).
Additional documents for international prospective students:
