This post is to inform all the prospective candidates offered provisional admission or probably seeking admission into the Stellenbosch University (SU) for the 2024/2025 academic session that the management of the institution has released the amount they are required to pay as fees for application form and registration (when given admission).

We specifically publish this information here today, for all people who need to know the current Application as well as the registration fees of SU. Please note that if you have applied for admission to Stellenbosch University or if you are already a student, it is advised that you know the current registration fees for all students, and this knowledge will help you, avoid making mistakes that will cost you your admission.

Stellenbosch University Application fees
An amount of R100 is payable when applying for admission as a student. This amount is not applicable to the following groups of students:

– International students – click here to be redirected to the Stellenbosch University International (SUI) website.
– Students applying to the Stellenbosch University Business School (USB). Send inquiry to usbcom@usb.ac.za.

Application fees are not refundable under any circumstances.​

HOW TO PAY YOUR APPLICATION FEE
You have two options to pay your R100 application fee:

ONLINE PAYMENT

  • Online payment is the easiest and fastest way to pay your application fee.
  • Follow the easy steps when you select “online payment”
  • As soon as you complete your payment and uploaded your documents, you will be able to
    submit your application.

OFFLINE PAYMENT

When you make an offline payment, you can submit your application and log into your Applicant Portal to submit your proof of payment as soon as you have made the payment.

The guidelines for an offline payment are as follows:

  • Stellenbosch University is registered as an approved beneficiary on all major banking websites. It is therefore unnecessary to insert our bank account details when registering us as a beneficiary.
  • Simply select ‘Stellenbosch University Student Fees’ from the approved beneficiary list and use your unique application number as a reference to add us as a beneficiary.

WAIVING OF THE APPLICATION FEE

  • Please note that international applicants as well as applicants for quantile 1 to 4 schools do not need to pay the application fee.

SU Application Date

  • Undergraduate Applications and Residences are open from Monday 4 April and close on Sunday 31 July.
  • Postgraduate Applications for the Stellenbosch and Tygerberg campuses are open from Monday 11 April
  • PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) Applications open on 1 July

Stellenbosch University Admission Requirements

Basic admission requirements for university study:

  • A National Senior Certificate (NSC) or Independent Examinations Board (IEB) school-leaving certificate as certified by Umalusi with admission to bachelor’s degree studies.
  • A university exemption certificate issued by the South African Matriculation Board to students with other school qualifications.
  • The minimum academic requirement for a bachelor’s degree is:
  • 30% for a South African Language of Learning and Teaching (English or Afrikaans) and
  • An achievement rating of 4 (50% – 59%) in four 20-credit subjects
  • Only School of Tomorrow applicants has to write the National Benchmark Tests (NBTs) if applying for a programme in AgriSciences.

Faculty requirements for programmes leading to a qualification in Viticulture and/or Oenology:

  • An average of at least 60% in the NSC, IEB or relevant final school examination.

The average is calculated by taking your highest score in the Language of Learning and Teaching subject (English or Afrikaans) + (5 x best results in 20-credit subjects excluding Life orientation and Mathematics 3). The total divided by 6 equals your NSC average.

  • Afrikaans or English (Home Language or First Additional Language) 4 (50%)
  • Mathematics 5 (60%)
  • Physical Sciences (Physics and Chemistry) 4 (50%)

How to Apply to Stellenbosch University

  1. Explore your options. For more information on the courses SU offers,
  • Take note of the closing dates for applications.
  • Select your programme.
  • Start your application.
  • Make sure you upload all your required documents.
    • Final grade 11/12 results (if applicable, academic transcript)
    • Signed contract
    • Proof of application fee payment (R100)
    • Non-SA citizens need to provide proof of permanent residence
    • Students with disabilities need to provide a student support form
    • Some faculties require additional specific documents
  • Write the National Benchmark Test
