University of Cape Town (UCT) is a state research university located in Cape Town in the Western Cape region of South Africa. The University was established in 1829 as the South African College, making it the oldest University institute in South Africa. The University offers diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate programs; Commerce, Engineering & the Built Environment, Health Sciences, Humanities, Law, and Science.

As of 2022, UCT’s enrollment comprised 29,427 students, including 24,718 from South Africa, 3,706 international students, 2,174 from the Southern African Development Community (SADC), and 408 from other parts of Africa. Moreover, UCT serves as a home to a diverse student body of 29,427 (including 17,685 undergraduates, 11,329 postgraduates, and 413 occasional students) and a staff complement of 4,984 (comprising 1,277 academic staff, 3,696 professional, administrative support, and service staff, and 22 external staff), among whom the university often employs between 100 and 1,000 students annually.

Graduates of UCT embark on careers spanning various sectors worldwide, illustrating the institution’s global impact. UCT’s Development and Alumni Department maintains connections with over 200,000 alumni across 164 countries, with a significant portion, approximately 142,000, residing in South Africa.
