Applications 2023 open on 01 April of the year preceding the year of intended study and close on 30 September 2022. POSTGRADUATE APPLICATION AND CLOSING DATE

International Applicants Admission Requirements

International applicants must meet both the university and faculty admission standards, which are outlined in the University of Johannesburg’s Admission Policy.

ALL INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS ARE TO TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING

  • Submit a completed application form with supporting documents
  • Final School results
  • Valid Passport Identity Document or Birth Certificate
  • Sworn English Translation of documents (Documents issued in any language other than English)
  • Provide proof of a non –  refundable Application Fee of R200.00
  • Provide proof of English Proficiency where English was not used as a medium of learning and teaching (the University prefers the applicant to take the IELTS at an overall score of 6 and TOEFL at an average score of 80–104 for Undergraduate programs) Alternatively, you may elect to write the University of Johannesburg English Language Programme Test (UJELP).  Should you choose to write the University of Johannesburg English Language Programme Test (UJELP), Mr. Malibongwe Masango will be the contact person for UJELP.   • In the case where both first and second choices were unsuccessful, the International Admissions Office will offer an international applicant an alternative choice option when meeting the requirements
  • Should you require on-campus accommodation, please submit a completed residence application form at the same time you apply to study at UJ

Note: Applicants who are currently studying or have previously attended a university in the Republic of South Africa must provide an academic transcript covering the whole term of study, particularly if they wish to be excluded from modules or courses at the university.

UJ Online Application For 2023-2024 Degree-Seeking students

Applicants must hold a South African National Senior Certificate with a degree endorsement in order to study for a South African degree.
For admission to undergraduate courses, all international applicants with high school qualifications earned outside of the Republic of South Africa must get a certificate of exemption from the Matriculation Board of South Africa. The Matriculation Board must receive the following supporting documentation at the location listed below:

  • Form M30 (this form can be downloaded on the Matriculation Board website https://mb.usaf.ac.za)
  • Correctly certified copies of the applicant’s educational qualifications certified by a South African High Commission, Consulate, Trade Mission, or a Public Notary in your home country
  • A correctly certified copy of your passport or birth certificate certified by a South African High Commission, Consulate, Trade Mission or a Public Notary in your home country
  • Sworn English Translation of documents (Documents issued in any language other than English)
  • Exemption fee as determined by the Matriculation Board ( see website https://mb.usaf.ac.za)
  • Submit proof of payment for the Exemption fee of R562 payable to the banking details below

Applicants from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Congo Brazzaville must apply directly to the Matriculation Board for Matriculation Exemption. When submitting a hardcopy application, please provide all properly certified copies by mail, or by e-mail if you applied online.

Admission is based on a separate APS (Admission Points System) for each university faculty. It is critical that applicants submit a copy of their school-leaving results and/or academic record if they have previously attended the university.

UJ Online Application For 2022-2023(TECHNOLOGICAL PROGRAMMES DIPLOMA, CERTIFICATE)

Should you wish to apply for Certificates or Diploma qualifications you can apply directly to the university without an Exemption Application or Certificate.

POSTGRADUATE APPLICANTS (POST-APPLICATION AND CLOSING DATE)

Applications open on 1 April of the year preceding the year of intended study and close on 30 September 2022 at 12:00 noon for Honours and Coursework Masters. Research Master and Ph.D. closing 31 October 2022 at 12:00. You may apply online at www.uj.ac.za and follow a link to study @UJ to either apply online or you may download the application form, which should either be submitted to the Student Enrolment Centre or mailed to the University. Online applicants are exempted from paying an application fee, whereas hardcopy applicants are expected to pay a non-refundable application fee of R200.

Should you require on-campus accommodation, please submit a completed residence application form at the same time you apply to study at UJ

Applicants who are now studying or have previously attended a university in the Republic of South Africa must provide an academic transcript covering the whole term of study in order for their application for postgraduate courses to be evaluated.

UJ Online Application For 2022-2023 Fees

Fees generally increase between 5 and 10 percent per year. Please contact the University in November 2022 to obtain the final fees for the 2023 academic year.

Please Note:

Prior to getting their study visa, all accepted overseas applicants must produce proof of available money for the entire tuition cost for the academic year as well as proof of Medical Aid administered in South Africa paid for a full academic year of study.

All privately supported international students (i.e., self, parent/s, or guardian) must pay the following tuition and residence expenses (on-campus residences):

  • An upfront payment of 30% of tuition and residence fees must be paid before or at registration.
  • 35% of the tuition and residence fees are to be paid by 30 April.
  • 35% of the tuition and residence fees are to be paid by 31 July.

The University will offer a 5% discount should the full fees be paid before or at registration.

UJ Online Application For 2023-2024 International levy

The levies mentioned below are to be paid in line with the above-mentioned fees structural payment above together with the non-refundable International Levy, Registration fee, and ICT Levy. PLEASE NOTE that the International levy expires on 31 December of each year.

  • SADC- and other African Countries – (Postgraduate, Undergraduate, Full time, Part-time) – R2 000-00
  • Other countries – R17 000.00
  • Occasional and Non-degree purposes/practical training – R8 000.00
  • Asylum Seeker/Refugees/Permanent Residence and Exchange students – NONE
  • Non-subsidized courses – R1 000.00

International levies for the year 2022 will be published prior to registration.
