A Step-by-Step Guide Applying to NMMU for 2025-2026:
For the academic year 2025-2026, certain qualifications at Nelson Mandela University have limited availability. To ensure your place, submitting your online application and all supporting documents promptly is important. Before completing the online application form, please review the Applicant Score (AS) and the minimum percentage required per subject for your chosen qualification. Applications for undergraduate, postgraduate, and international students aiming to join Nelson Mandela University in 2025 open online in April 2024.
The Nelson Mandela University Student Portal is an online service that provides students with easy access to academic and administrative resources. Accessible from any internet-connected computer, the portal allows students to perform various tasks, such as reviewing academic records, enrolling in courses, checking test results, obtaining course materials, and communicating with university officials.
Students can access the portal by visiting the university’s website and clicking on the Student Portal button, using their login information. - All prospective undergraduate, postgraduate, and international students aiming to join Nelson Mandela University in 2025 are invited to apply online starting in April 2024.
NMMU Online Application Closing Date 2025-2026
To ensure sufficient time for application processing and planning by both the university and yourself, online applications for early admission in 2025 should be submitted by:
- 30 June 2024 for Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) applications.
- 30 June 2024 for Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) & Bachelor of Radiography (BRad) applications.
- 02 August 2024 for early applications (excluding MBChB, BPharm & BRad).
- 30 September 2024 for late applications (excluding MBChB, BPharm & BRad).
- 30 September 2024 for international student applications.
- 30 September 2024 for ALL student housing applications.
- International student applications (excluding MBChB & BRad): 30 September 2024 (application fee of R500)

NMMU Online Application Requirements 2025-2026
Your online application form must be accompanied by:
-
- a copy of your final Grade 11 exam results or;
- the most recent Grade 12 (June/Sept) exam results (no March results), or
- a copy of your matriculation certificate/statement of results if you have already passed Grade 12/completed schooling,
- copies of your diploma/degree certificates plus academic record(s) and certificate(s) of conduct if you have studied elsewhere,
- a copy of your ID (birth certificate if still waiting for ID),
- a copy of the identity document of your parent/legal guardian/surety,
- declaration by your parent / legal guardian/surety, if you are a dependent, currently at school, studying at a tertiary institution, or have recently left school and do/, will not have permanent employment when applying or studying at the university.
- Suppose your Applicant Score (AS) and subject-specific marks do not meet the entry requirements for your chosen program. In that case, you will need to consider another qualification as NMMU no longer tests applicants for admission.
- Some programs have additional selection requirements; please consult the Undergraduate Guide for your faculty-specific requirements.
- You may track the status of your application.
- The outcome of your application will be conveyed to you via our website and SMS. Please ensure that we have your correct cell phone number.
- If you are admitted you will receive an Orientation Booklet together with registration information in November/December.
- Final acceptance is dependent on:
- your final school leaving results meeting the minimum admission requirements for your chosen program, or
- the submission of your final academic record and certificate of conduct if you are studying elsewhere.

Follow the below process to apply for admission at NMMU for the 2025-2026 year:
- Go to the application portal at https://applyonline.mandela.ac.za/.
- Create an account by providing your email address and a password.
- Log in to your account and complete the application form with the required information
- Upload all the required documents, such as certified copies of your ID, academic transcripts, and proof of payment for the application fee.
- Review your application and submit it online along with the uploaded documents.
- Wait for a response from NMU on the status of your application.
