The university was founded in 2004 when three technikons merged. This merger aims to correct historical disparities by offering access to all of our communities and a home for all of its students. They’ve evolved into South Africa’s largest contact university, with seven faculties offering programs in science, engineering, and technology, business and management, education, humanities, and the arts.
Times Higher Education (THE) put us among the top 1000 universities in the world in 2018, and our engineering programs among the top 300.
We were also placed eighth in South Africa by THE. The University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP) was named the best university of technology in the world in 2017.
The Tshwane University Of Technology TUT online application is open to all prospective students from far and near to apply to study in the undergraduate program from the 10th Of March 2022.

Applications are open from June to September 30 each year (Applications submitted after this date will not be accepted – please apply during the application cycle before the closing date to ensure your application is considered.)
DISTANCE EDUCATION REGISTRATIONS/SUBJECT ADDITIONS 2023
- Online subject registrations for newly approved students commenced on 21 January 2023 and closes on 25 February 2023.
- Online registrations for senior students commenced on 10 February 2023 and closes on 25 February 2023.
- Late registrations (with penalty fees) for all students commence on 28 February and close on 4 March 2023.

Tshwane University of Technology TUT Online Application 2023-2024 Requirements
- A pass mark in English at Senior Certificate level (minimum additional language; certain programs may require first or home language status)
- Each course has its own specific admission requirements.
- Prospective students should note that the admission requirements of individual programs could change from year to year.
- For some programs, students will be required to write an admission test, which will determine whether they will be admitted to the program, or whether it will be recommended to them that they enroll in a relevant foundation course.
Application Fee: A non-refundable application fee of R240.

Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy?
All learners are required to take one of the two subjects for NSC-G purposes
TUT position:
Mathematics is relevant to programs that require prior knowledge of mathematics; all others may only require Mathematical Literacy. (Details of what each subject entails can be determined by looking at the DoE curriculum statements, available on the DoE website).
