Vacancies at Mangosuthu University of Technology
Mangosuthu University of Technology is seeking an accomplished visionary leader to assume the role of Vice-Chancellor and Principal. This individual will provide academic and strategic leadership to advance the university’s vision, mission, and strategic objectives. As the Chief Executive and Accounting Officer, the Vice-Chancellor and Principal will hold overall responsibility for the academic, research stature, and administrative management of the university.
Accountable to the University Council, the successful candidate will work alongside a team of executive and senior management to fulfil their mandate. With a five-year fixed-term performance-based contract, the Vice-Chancellor and Principal must possess a deep understanding of the challenges, opportunities, and developments within the higher education sector at the national, continental, and international levels.
Key Performance Areas:
The Vice-Chancellor and Principal will be expected to:
  • Manage the University in line with its Vision, Mission and Strategic Objectives;
  • Provide strategic leadership to the University;
  • Ensure that the University is a policies-run institution;
  • Facilitate the provision of appropriate resources (human capital, property, plant and equipment) required for the University to achieve its mandate and mission;
  • Manage the University’s risks;
  • Ensure the financial sustainability of the University;
  • Report on behalf of and about the University and its operations;
  • Promote positive strategic stakeholder relations, and
  • Be a line manager to the positions that report to the Vice-Chancellor and Principal.

Minimum Requirement To Apply For Vacancies at Mangosuthu University of Technology

  • A Doctoral qualification (earned)
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience at the Senior Management level of which 5 years must be in a senior executive role in an academic or academic administrative institution (University, College, or Research Council).
  • Knowledge and understanding of higher education legislation, associated industry practices, other regulatory frameworks, policies and the associated risk management thereof.

The University’s retirement age stands at 65 years. They offer a five-year performance-based contract with the expectation that the successful candidate will serve the entire term.
