MUT Online Application Requirements

The online application date for the year 2023 will begin on 3rd January 2023, therefore all prospective students must make sure within the application period to prevent their applications s being denied.

  •  25 July 2022 – Friday, 16 September 2022
Fourth Term
  • Monday, 26 September 2022 – Friday, 23 December 2022
  • Census Dates: 30 May 2023 and 29 September 2023
  • Closure of University: Friday, 23 December 2023
Important closing dates:
  • Faculty of Engineering – first semester applications – 30 September
  • Faculty of Engineering – second-semester applications – 31 May
  • Faculty of Natural Sciences – 30 September
  • Analytical Chemistry – second-semester applications – 31 May

Applications submitted after 30 September accumulate a late application fee determined by the CAO.

Each faculty establishes entrance requirements based on a point total determined from the prospective student’s best five subjects. In addition to the points system, certain departments require applicants to take a mandatory entrance exam. Due to limited space, not all applicants who meet the minimum requirements will be accepted. The most qualified applicants and those that chose MUT as their first or second choice are given priority in the selection process.
Minimum Entrance Requirements
  • National Senior Certificate with a diploma pass or N3 with 50% pass in Mathematics and English
  • A minimum of 5 subjects with level 4 pass for diploma study and level 3 for Access Courses
  • English Home Language or First Additional Language, level 4 pass
  • Specific subject combination and pass level relevant to the qualification
  • Minimum points as per faculty requirements and as listed on the CAO handbook
The following documents are required of South African students
  • National Senior Certificate or Statement of Results
  •  Senior Certificate
  •  Identity Document

Students transferring from other universities should submit an original academic record and a certificate of good conduct

NON-SOUTH AFRICAN APPLICANTS

  •  A valid study permit
  •  A valid medical aid/health insurance cover
  •  A valid passport
  •  GCE, GCSE, IGCSE, or Cambridge School Certificate
  •  Students holding a GCE GCSE IGCSE or the Cambridge School Certificate must have passed five approved ordinary level subjects including
  • The English language provided three subjects have been passed at the same examination sitting.
