The online application portal for Nelson Mandela University undergraduate, postgraduate, or international students in 2025 is open online from the beginning of April 1st, 2024 to September 30th, 2024 for new and continuing students to apply.
With over 27,000 students enrolled on seven separate campuses or delivery sites – six in the Nelson Mandela Metropole and one in the lovely city of George – Nelson Mandela University is the largest higher education institution in the Eastern and Southern Cape.
Nelson Mandela University, formerly Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMU), and before that – the University of Port Elizabeth (UPE), the Port Elizabeth Technikon, and Vista University’s Port Elizabeth campus. Nelson Mandela University NMU Online Application Date For 2025/2026
Prospective students interested in joining Nelson Mandela University in 2025 can now apply online starting from April 2024. To ensure there is enough time for application processing, both by the university and yourself, it is recommended to submit your online application by the following dates:
- June 30, 2024: For Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) applications.
- June 30, 2024: For Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) and Bachelor of Radiography (BRad) applications.
- August 2, 2024: For early applications (excluding MBChB, BPharm & BRad).
- September 30, 2024: For late applications (excluding MBChB, BPharm & BRad).
- September 30, 2024: For international student applications.
- September 30, 2024: For ALL student housing applications.
Note: Please be aware that spaces in certain programs are limited, so it’s in your best interest to submit your online application and ALL supporting documents on time. Nelson Mandela University NMU Online Application Requirements 2025/2026
All applicants are to have the following requirements during the application procedure to NMU:
- a certified copy of your final Grade 11 exam results or;
- a certified copy of your most recent Grade 12 (June/Sept) exam results (no March results), or
- a certified copy of your matriculation certificate/statement of results if you have already passed Grade 12/completed schooling,
- certified copies of your diploma/degree certificates plus academic record(s) and certificate(s) of conduct if you have studied elsewhere,
- a certified copy of your ID (birth certificate if still waiting for ID),
- a certified copy of the identity document of your parent/legal guardian/surety,
- declaration by your parent / legal guardian/surety if you are a dependant, currently at school, studying at a tertiary institution, or
- have recently left school and do/will not have permanent employment when applying or studying at the University
You need the following to apply online at NMU 2025:
- Internet access.
- A valid personal email address (should you not have an e-mail account, please open one before proceeding with your online application).
- Your latest school results – Example: Grade 11 final or grade 12 June or September or final school-leaving results – No Grade 12 March results.
- A valid SA ID number or passport number
- A valid cell number correctly, as your application status will be communicated via cellphone

Your online application must include the following:
- A certified copy of your final Grade 11 exam results, or
- A certified copy of your most recent Grade 12 exam results from June or September (March results are not accepted), or
- A certified copy of your matriculation certificate or statement of results if you have completed Grade 12,
- Certified copies of your diploma or degree certificates, along with academic records and certificates of conduct if you’ve studied elsewhere,
- A certified copy of your ID (or birth certificate if you don’t yet have an ID),
- A certified copy of your parent, legal guardian, or surety’s identity document,
- A declaration from your parent, legal guardian, or surety if you are a dependant, currently in school, studying at a tertiary institution, or recently left school without permanent employment.
If your Applicant Score (AS) and subject-specific pass marks do not meet the direct entry requirements for your chosen program, you will need to select another program as the university no longer conducts admissions tests.

- You can check the status of your application online. The outcome of your application will be communicated through our website and SMS, so make sure we have your correct phone number.
If you are admitted, you will receive an orientation guide and registration information in November/December.
Your final acceptance depends on:
- Meeting the minimum admission requirements with your final school-leaving results, or
Submitting your final academic record and certificate of conduct if you’re transferring from another institution.

Thank you for considering Nelson Mandela University for your postgraduate studies in 2025. If you are interested in applying for a postgraduate certificate, diploma, honours, master’s, or doctoral degree, you can do so through our online application system.
To give yourself and the university enough time for application processing and planning, please submit your application for early admission by August 4, 2024. Some programs have limited spots, so it is best to submit your application form and all required documents as soon as possible. Late applications might be considered after this date, if there’s still space available, and on academic merit, until September 30, 2024.
